5 Features Your Website Should Have To Start The Year Off Right

As the year is ending, we normally have New Year Resolutions. We know, most people make a resolution to lose weight or exercise, and normally give up after a month of barley trying. I know a man that stated he made a resolution over 10 years ago and hasn't broke it. His resolution was...to never make another New Year Resolution. Well, I hope that isn't the case for you. I want to help you this year in regard to your business and website.

Most people never think of making a resolution for their business or website. Normally it's the weight lose thing because we feel guilty after Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's eating. Well, for me, I feel guilty that I didn't do as much as I should in regard to a websites and business. Things are going to change. I have 5 features that I want to implement into this business that I believe will help it grow. I'd like to share them with you, and hopefully you'll follow some of these simple features that are not hard, but will add to the experience of your business website.

Feeding

When I think of feeding, I am talking about feeding your clients, followers, or reader. These are the people that come to your website or find it via search engines. When people come to our websites, they don't want the website from 10 years ago with just a handful pages to view. They want content. The web is known as the "information highway". So, what kind of information are you delivering on your website. The easiest way to continually feed your visitors is to have a blog. A blog has many benefits, but bottom line, if you them, they will come (a line I heard from a pastor that built his church on potlucks, lol). If you are wondering about blogging, then I suggest you take a look at this article: 3 Reasons Your Website Will Fail Without A Blog.

Follow

Now that you have you are on the way to making your website more meaty, it's time to take it to the next level by promoting your website in social media. This goes hand in hand with feeding your visitors. As you post your website to social media platforms, if there is nothing worth sharing, then well, your visitors will leave your website like last years Christmas tree. Yet, if you have quality content and a good "meal" when people arrive, they are more willing to share what they have found. This is called going "viral". To make sure this happens, you need to implement tools for people to share your website. And just to be nice, I have 2 places where you can find tools to help build your following. These are called sharing widgets, and they are free and easy to implement:

Form

A contact form is vital to your business website. How are people going to contact you? I know you may have a phone number, I am finding that more people feel comfortable sending an email first, get a response, and then setup a time to speak. That has been my personal experience in business online. It's kinda like people throw a bunch of fishing lines in the water and wait for the first bite. I have called people that filled out a form on one of my websites and they told me that I was one of many people they contacted. So a contact form is important. You need one on your website and it needs to be easy to access.

Friendly

A friendly website can mean a lot of things, but what I am talking about is making your website easy on the eyes and easy to find information. If a website is to busy, it hurts, literally, and when that happens, people normally don't stay on that long. Not only does it hurt the eyes, but it can become confusing. If a person gets confused o your website, and can't find what they are looking for, then normally leave FAST, and you just lost a customer. Functionality

What good is a website if the links are broken or buttons don't work? What a a place where an image used to be, and now there is a blank space. Or, how about random lines of code in your website because of programming errors? These are things that make your website look unprofessional and normally drive people away from your business. You need to take action. This year, make it a priority to bring your website up to par. You want your business to succeed, don't you? Well, take action. You know there are problems, but you haven't got a round to it. Well, make that your resolution...get around to it. It will help you in the long run. Most likely, these are little things that will take a few hours to fix, and then you can know the rest of the year that you conquered your New Year Resolution.
