How To Submit Your Web Site To Search Engines

If you haven't submitted your website to the search engines, then you are missing out! In fact, if you haven't submitted your site yet, then I suggest that it becomes your 1st priority. Think about it, have you ever tried to find something, only to find mediocre results? Well, you may have the best website in the world, that is above mediocre, but if people can't find it, what good is it? Are you trying to build an offline business? Can people find you when they search? Do you specialize in a particular market? Can people find your site based on your target market key phrases? These are all questions that boil down to one thing, have you submitted your website to the major search engines?

How & Where Do I Submit My Site To Search Engines?

Google

Google is the largest search engine and is an authority online. Though Google is a massive site, it is easy to use. Not only is it easy, but Google has given tools to enable webmasters to get ahead online. In order to submit your site, they ask that you have an account with them. You may sign up for a free account, using a free email they offer, or your own email. Once you sign up for an account, you may submit your site HERE.

Yahoo!

Yahoo! has been around for a long time. I remember being in middle school (15 years ago!) and being taught how to search for content on an OLD Yahoo! site. Out of many of the older search engines, Yahoo! out lived them all. That gives them credibility. Just as Google is an authority, Yahoo! is a major player on the web. With Yahoo!, you may need to place a simple line of code in your website header or place an html file on your site to verify that an actual person is submitting the site. You can submit your site by clicking HERE.

Bing

Bing, formerly known as MSN is another large search engine that needs to be taken into consideration. Bing is owned by Microsoft, and just like Google is an authority, so is Bing/Microsoft. Bing is also being integrated into the Facebook search features. For instance, one may type a phrase in the Facebook search box, and after the people and pages listed in Facebook, one will find search results directly from Bing. Another reason to consider Bing is because it is the default search engine in Internet Explorer. Many people that are not too savvy about the web normally keep the Internet Explorer as their default browser, while leaving Bing as their default search engine. You can submit your site to Bing HERE.

DMOZ

This is the little secret search engine/directory that most people don't know about. It has a high page rank and is looked at with great respect by the previous mentioned search engines. This site is maintained on a volunteer basis, and it may take several months to be listed. When I first create a website, I submit it to all 4 engines on this post. I normally get a few hits here and there. Then one day I'll notice I am getting a LOT more hits. I check to see if I am listed on DMOZ,and sure enough my new site is there...a few months later. This site is important to the other major players, therefore it is important for your website.

One thing to note about DMOZ is that they personally view each site. If it is considered spammy or does not have acceptable content, it will be denied. You will NOT receive an email. Keep this in mind becuase you may need to submit a site a few times if it is new or has little content. Also, to submit your site, you will need to find the directory that is related to your type of site and submit it from that page.
